This South African Food & Wine Tour travels along the magical Garden Route of the Cape, visiting owner-run lodges and guesthouses, offering traditional South African hospitality and utterly sublime food.
Each property, although totally different, has been hand-picked for its high standard of personal service, relaxed atmosphere, simple elegance and of course a passion for good food and wine. On each property we will enjoy a dinner specially selected using seasonal produce, prepared and cooked by the resident chef.
Your tour starts in Cape Town, travelling to Cape Agulhas, through the Garden Route, including Plettenburg Bay and the Addo Elephant Park concluding in Port Elizabeth
In Cape Town we book into the Glen Avon, within Constantia, a lodge of Cape Dutch architecture. Our guests will enjoy interactive cooking of traditional Cape Malay fare, and feast on seafood specialties at an expert chef-led demonstration and lesson. A visit to the renowned District Six Museum is also included. The tour then winds its way to Cape Agulhas, where we book into L'agulhas, perched on a hill of rare fynbos at the most southernmost point of Africa. Enjoy a day spent on the beach and a bracing swim in the waters where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
Garden Route: From Agulhas the group travels to one of the best-loved holiday destinations on the Garden Route, to Plettenberg Bay, where guests stay in a gracious Cape Dutch homestead, called Lairds Lodge. Indulge in sumptuous food and wine at an interactive lunch at a local home and cookery school, and a food-and-wine pairing dinner at one of South African most well known resorts.
From Plettenberg Bay, you will journey to the Woodall Country House, on the outskirts of the Addo Elephant Park, where you can enjoy elephant back riding, health spas and superb South African food and hospitality. Lastly our travels take you to Port Elizabeth, South Africa's 'Friendly City'. In Port Elizabeth we will stay at La Provence Country House with acres of park-like gardens and panoramic views.
This trip can be done in 8 days but to enjoy it fully we recommend that you take 12 days to complete the trip.
