The Ngorongoro Crater, once a gigantic volcano, is the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600 m deep Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. Nearly three million years old, the ancient caldera shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens on earth. Endangered black rhino are protected within its rim, giant tusked elephants wander the forests, black-maned lions stalk the grasslands, and flamingoes crowd the soda lakes. An estimated 25 000 large mammals are resident in this bowl of plenty, including a population of approximately 6 000 resident wildebeest, 16 highly endangered black rhino, and around 70 lions. Cheetah move in and out of the Crater, while leopards are most often encountered in the spectacular Lerai Forest.
&Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, consistently recognized as one of the world’s most luxurious and elegant places to stay, sits right on the edge of the Crater, offering unbeatable views of one of the natural travel wonders of the world. Breathe deeply and feel the cool, clear air of the crater rim fill your lungs. Stand high on the edge of a world cradled by the rugged walls of a perfectly preserved caldera. Try to fit the sheer grand scale of it all into a photograph. Roam the scenic surrounds of this natural marvel on foot or by vehicle, perhaps even by horseback through a tranquil coffee plantation. Descend into the crater itself, into a sheltered world of predators and prey, dramatic chases, and unforgettably scenic tableaus lit by shafts of golden afternoon sunlight. Hear the wild cries of leaping Maasai rise into the clear night sky, borne upward by the sparks of a towering bonfire.
Spend two nights at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Accommodation is in a suite with ensuite bathroom with bath and shower. Your stay includes three meals daily, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits and beers, teas and coffees, scheduled safari activities, refreshments on game drives, and laundry.

Day 5 - 8: Serengeti National Park

Tuck into a sensational breakfast feast before your drive back to the Manyara airstrip for your scheduled flight to &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas.
The Serengeti National Park, meaning “endless plains” in the Maasai language, is undoubtedly one of the world’s most celebrated wilderness areas and is an ongoing source of inspiration to writers, filmmakers, and photographers. It is Tanzania’s oldest game reserve, renowned as the setting for the annual Great Migration, when an estimated three million antelope, mostly wildebeest, migrate to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. This epic, seasonal journey is a deeply moving experience and a wonderful photographic subject. Visitors to the park can roam its sprawling plains on exhilarating game drives or hop into a hot air balloon for a once-in-a-lifetime wilderness adventure. The Serengeti National Park is also home to the Olduvai Gorge, where groundbreaking archaeological discoveries have been made, as well as the breath-taking Ngorongoro Crater - a World Heritage Site.
Spend three nights at &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas in an en-suite tent. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, scheduled activities, laundry, soft drinks, house wines, local brand spirits, and return airstrip transfers.
At an additional cost, you can choose to float above the Serengeti on a once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon flight. At dawn, rise as the sun greets the day and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you.
Get front row seats to the Great Migration on an andBeyond game drive tailored to suit your preference, with a choice between shorter, twice-daily drives or one full-day game drive, with a stop for a picnic lunch. The game drives are carefully planned to anticipate the progress of the Great Migration, so you should not have to travel too far to see the vast herds. However, if the Migration has moved off, or the dramatic river crossings are in progress, you may choose to spend more time on the vehicle in order to maximize your chances of seeing this incredible phenomenon.

Day 8 - 11: Zanzibar

More than 1 200 years ago, the silhouettes of three-cornered Arab dhows were first spotted across the horizon of the Indian Ocean waters washing Africa’s eastern shores. These traders had happened upon an island of such exquisite beauty that they filled their parchment manuscripts with tales detailing the picturesque sights. This scented land of coconuts and spices was so idyllic that the Sultan of Oman decided to move the seat of his empire to these shores they named Zayn Zal Barr, meaning “fair is the island.” Today the Zanzibar Archipelago is still bathed in the heady scents of cloves and cinnamon, and traditional dhows still drift across the horizon.
Step aboard a sailing dhow with its iconic triangular sails for a day on the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. Dive or snorkel the brilliantly colored reefs or stop on an isolated sandbank for lunch. Brace your feet on the deck to do battle with the game-fish of the Indian ocean on a deep-sea fishing safari. Pause under the cool overgrowth of an island forest and marvel at the medicinal benefits of the plants your guide has pointed out. Indulge in the unique offerings of your chosen retreat, be it a spa treatment or a lazy lounge on the beach, sustained by icy cocktails.
Spend three nights at &Beyond Mnemba Island Lodge in a Banda – the perfect way to end off a safari. Your stay includes accommodation, meals, soft drinks, house wines, local beer, local brand spirits, snorkeling, kayaking, saltwater fly-fishing, windsurfing, and scuba diving (guests must provide proof that they hold a valid diving certificate, alternatively diving courses are available at an additional cost).
