Ngorongoro Crater Lodge (Suites), Tanzania:

 

Perched on the edge of the Crater itself, this award-winning lodge is fit for a king and queen.

Guests can be forgiven for losing track of which era, or even continent, they are experiencing at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Nowhere else on earth can you wake up among all the trappings of an elegant baroque chateau - brocade sofas, gilt mirrors, beaded chandeliers, and paneled walls - and be instantly transported into one of the most famous African landscapes with just one glance out the window of the lodge. In this place of dramatic contrasts, where Versailles meets Maasai, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the breathtakingly beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture.

Divided into three camps, 30 stilted suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive Crater experience. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers who provide warm, personal service. Brocade sofas and Persian rugs invite you to re-live the day’s experiences around a roaring fire. The domed dining room, where sparkling silver and crystal vie for attention with the huge windows and awe-inspiring views.

 

Everything is chosen to delight the imagination and enhance the spectacular views of the magnificent surroundings. An eclectic blend of elegant teak paneling, Victorian furnishings, and whimsical African touches creates a sumptuous atmosphere that is as elegant and unique as the Crater itself. Leather chairs recline in front of a lit fireplace and raw silk curtains screen a private veranda. Even the gigantic bathtub is set under a hand-beaded chandelier.

Children are welcome at &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. The lodge has a family room consisting of two interleading suites. The lodge is also able to accommodate a limited number of triple rooms. This means that, should parents wish to share a room with younger children, an additional bed will be set up in the parents’ room for children 16 years or younger.

The solitary magnificence of the Serengeti is offset by the warm service and simple luxury of our comfortable tented accommodation. From the moment you awaken to the sound of the alfresco bucket shower in your en-suite bedroom being topped up with hot water your natural adventure has begun. Crisp linens and crystal chandeliers in your spacious tent lend of air of extravagance. The simplicity of camping, with no mains electricity and running water, is softened by convenient touches like a flush w.c, power outlets in the vehicles, and a personal butler.

Carefully planned to bring guests as close as possible to the magnificent natural spectacle of the Great Migration, the two &Beyond Serengeti Under Canvas camps are situated at a variety of private campsites throughout the national park and move according to the path of the migratory herds. A comfortable drive brings guests into the midst of moving masses of wildebeest and zebra, ready to witness the natural drama as herds brave obstacles and predators to reach rich grasslands.

A dedicated sitting and dining tent provides deep sofas from which to contemplate the vastness and peace of the surrounding landscape. Lake Manyara Tree Lodge (Treehouse Suites), Tanzania:
The only permanent luxury lodge in Lake Manyara National Park, this Lake Manyara Tree Lodge is renowned for its romantic stilted treehouse suites that are shaded by a mahogany forest. After an exhilarating game drive, guests stop for sundowners on the lakeshore below the Great Rift Valley wall.

Most people think that the famous tree-climbing lions at Lake Manyara have developed their climbing habit to get away from annoying insects. At &Beyond, we have our own theory - they’re jealous of our magnificent treehouse suites at &Beyond Lake Manyara Tree Lodge! Cradled in the boughs of an ancient mahogany forest, the lodge blends into the natural beauty of its breathtaking surroundings.

Hidden away high in the trees in a secluded corner of the national park, Lake Manyara Tree Lodge offers a sophisticated blend of natural indulgence and romance. Nestled in a dense forest between the lakeshore and the steep Rift Valley escarpment, the lodge is perfectly positioned to explore the park’s wealth of habitats. Set in the remote southern region of the park, you would be surprised to see another vehicle on your game drive.

Each suite is a lofty treehouse with a private veranda and large windows that open up to the lush forest, welcoming the sights and sounds of the African bush. Klein’s Camp (Cottages), Tanzania:
Perched on the edge of the Kuka Hills, Klein’s Camp boasts magnificent views of an exclusive wilderness concession that borders the vast Serengeti plains. Guests enjoy exceptional game viewing, thrilling night game drives, Maasai culture, and old-fashioned safari luxury.

With unbroken views over a gorgeous game-filled valley and the hills beyond, which play host to one of the greatest wildlife migrations on earth, &Beyond Klein’s Camp embodies the very soul of the Serengeti.

This private and remote camp offers guests the spirit of wild Africa - wooded hillsides, rolling grasslands, and forested river banks all teeming with the rich wildlife of this natural sanctuary lie sprawled at your feet. Set in a landscape that is gentle yet rugged, &Beyond Klein’s Camp reflects the heart of this untamed land with a vintage safari style.

With just ten thatched stone cottages, Klein’s Camp is both personal and intimate. Whitewashed walls and rich wooden floors, combined with soft cream furnishings, create a calm and soothing refuge. Inspired by the breathtaking natural backdrop, relax on your private veranda with a pair of binoculars or indulge your inner artist with a sketchbook. When night falls, snuggle down in your canopied bed and listen to the sounds of Africa unfold around you.

Set just below the crest of the Kuka Hills, Klein’s Camp overlooks the vital corridor linking the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. Twice a year, the valleys below are filled with a jostling throng of zebra and wildebeest. Sweeping views of the surrounding valleys and hills provide hours of endless entertainment, with resident giraffes and elephants often spotted moving leisurely on the nearby slopes.

Boasting one of the finest views in Africa, even the swimming pool at Klein’s Camp overlooks smoky views of distant hills. The stone interiors of the guest areas open up to breathtaking panoramas, with open fireplaces to keep the chill away. Stone floors and deep leather armchairs invite you to while away the hours, with bound tomes and classic African memorabilia for company. Fine linen, silver, and china sparkle in the candlelight in the open dining area.

Grumeti Serengeti River Lodge (Suites), Tanzania:
&Beyond Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp lies right in the path of the Great Migration and is exceptionally situated for dramatic river crossings, as well as an abundance of resident wildlife.

Located in the remote Western Corridor of the Serengeti, Grumeti is tucked into the shade of an evergreen forest on the banks of an offshoot of the famous Grumeti River. Black and white colobus monkeys chatter in the foliage and chase each other over the thatched roofs of the tented suites. A resident pod of hippos grunts and grumbles from beneath a layer of luscious green water weeds in the tranquil lagoon in front of the camp.

Game drives from the camp can expect to encounter an exceptional range of resident wildlife, as well as Tanzania’s annual Great Migration. Each year, the massed herds of wildebeest and zebra cross the waters of the Grumeti River, home to some of Africa’s largest crocodiles, in search of fresh grazing grounds.

Meals can be enjoyed on an extensive deck with beautiful views towards the river, while the dining area opens up to a traditional African boma, where dinner is served beneath a billion stars. Traditional fires are known as jikos and outdoor ovens produce mouth-watering aromas, while the sounds of the African night provide a gentle backdrop to tales of the day’s adventures.

Intimate guest areas include open-fronted sitting and dining areas, as well as a domed bar, all adorned with beaded artifacts. The spacious decks are perfect for enjoying sundowners overlooking the river and the camp’s rim-flow swimming pool provides a view of the hippos lazing in the lagoon.

There’s so much for families to do at &Beyond Grumeti, from watching the antics of the monkeys to splashing in the swimming pool within sight of the hippo and baking your own pizzas in the wood-fired ovens.

Please note that, if a private safari vehicle is not booked, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in regular game drives. Children aged 6 to 11 are welcome on regular game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion.
