BEST TIME TO VISIT SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK:
East Africa is equatorial so the climate is fairly constant and it is a year-round destination. Tanzania has a light rainy season from November to March. This period is known as the ‘short rains’, often no more than a quick downpour each day, followed by clear sunshine. From December to March the weather becomes increasingly warmer with the ‘long rains’ occurring between April and May.

What Time of Year Can We See the Wildebeest Migration and in Which Area?
There is no real beginning or end to the wildebeest’s constant search for food and water. The only beginning is when calves are born – almost 400,000 wildebeest calves are born during a 6-week period usually between late January and mid-March. The migration path varies from year to year depending on weather and other environmental factors.

It's difficult to predict exactly where the migrating wildebeest will be in a given month because movements depend so much on weather patterns. But generally over the year, the animals move from the wet southern and eastern plains of the Serengeti from November to March and to the dryer north of the Serengeti National Park, both north and south of the Mara River, from the end of May through October.

Singita Mara River Tented Camp is located on the northern banks of the world-renowned Mara River in the Lamai triangle, celebrated for its annual wildebeest migration crossings. The triangle covers 40,000 hectares (98,000 acres) of the northernmost tip of the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, slotted between the Maasai Mara National Park in Kenya in the north and the Mara River in the south. Distinctive soil composition results in one of the highest year-round concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park.
With high concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park year-round and close proximity to areas where the migration crosses the river, your safari will be a life-changing adventure.

Singita Mara River Tented Camp is located on the northern banks of the world-renowned Mara River in the Lamai triangle, celebrated for its annual wildebeest migration crossings. Distinctive soil composition results in one of the highest year-round concentrations of wildlife in the Serengeti National Park.

Situated in the remote Lamai triangle in Tanzania, this permanent tented camp is a modern take on the classic East African safari. Close to the ground and off the grid, the concept and design of the camp encourage constant engagement with nature without compromising on creature comforts. The look is Bohemian chic, contemporary with splashes of bright colors, yet not losing the elegant yet relaxed feet-up style that defines the Singita brand.
Daily game drives with professional guides provide the perfect opportunity to get up close to Africa’s incredible animals, while evening drives reveal the elusive magic of nocturnal Africa. Game drives are all conducted in state-of-the-art Land Rovers, each accommodating a maximum of six guests.
Walking safaris are an incredible way to experience the bush up close and personal. Your expert guide and tracker will accompany you as you track animals on foot through the wilderness and explore the magnificent plants and landscapes around you. We suggest a minimum age of 15 years for this activity, but participation is at the discretion of your Field Guide.
Body treatments such as massage, polishing scrubs, and nourishing masks can be enjoyed in the comfort of guest tents or out on a private deck.
Key Species You Are Likely to See
The location of Singita Mara River Tented Camp provides excellent opportunities to view the river crossings of the annual wildebeest migration. As the Lamai triangle forms part of the Serengeti Mara ecosystem, you will experience year-round concentrations of plains game, big cats, elephants, and enormous populations of crocodiles and hippos in the Mara River.

Please note that when the migration herds are in the camp vicinity there may at times be an unpleasant odor caused by the immense number of wildebeest crossing the Mara River.
Singita Mara River Tented Camp consciously seeks to eliminate the unnecessary use of energy and non-biodegradable materials. In keeping with this, the camp is “off-the-grid” and relies entirely on a custom-designed solar power array and uses recycled and natural materials. Bohemian chic sets the tone for relaxation. Spun natural fabrics, canvas, stone, and raw leather blend with Maasai primary colors and elegant art pieces sourced from young African designers and craftsmen. Functional East African design encourages guests to embrace the outdoors and connect with surrounding nature.
