Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp, Serengeti National Park

Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp’s three-set locations throughout the year are based on the natural migration path offering wildlife viewing from open plains, sweeping grasslands, and rocky kopjes. The stars of this seasonal path are wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelles, and the predators that this migratory journey attracts. The Serengeti is known for having the Big Five; cheetahs are a highlight, along with wild dogs, giraffes, waterbuck, and impala.
Accommodation:
An elegant contemporary take on the classic campaign look, Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers accommodation under canvas with 10 five-star tents, all of which have been styled with distinction. Each tent has a wooden deck perfect for pausing for a just-brewed cup of Tanzania’s finest coffee, and ensuite bathrooms feature authentic bucket showers. A personal tent attendant is available around the clock to fill each bucket shower to the perfect temperature. Thanks to the on-the-go nature of the whole sand-colored canvas-constructed camp, there is little impact on the environment, casting a lighter ecological shadow.

Sanctuary Swala, Tarangire National Park:
Tarangire National Park lies in the heart of Maasai country and makes a fabulous introduction to Tanzania’s diverse peoples, landscapes, and wildlife. During the months of June to October, a small migration of wildebeest and zebra takes place in the park and moves out towards the northeast by January.
The elephant herds move out of the park towards the Maasai Steppes in the east and return again towards the end of June. The migration is dictated by the rains as the Tarangire River is the life source of water during the dry season.
Sanctuary Swala is located on the far west side of Tarangire and is renowned for the elephants that congregate around the water hole in front of the camp.
Each of the twelve luxurious canvas pavilions is shaded by tall acacia trees and all are within sight of the well-frequented water hole which regularly draws lions, leopards, and resident bull elephants. The tents feature a spacious open plan arrangement with comfortable king or twin beds, campaign chairs, and plush sofas, as well as an ensuite bathroom with both indoor and outdoor showers. Each tent has its own personal attendant to attend to guests’ every need. The main dining area, deck, and library are lifted on stilts around an enormous and ancient baobab tree. There is also a stunning infinity swimming pool overlooking the water hole.
Key wildlife in the area are lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, giraffes, zebra, brown and spotted hyenas, kudu, wildebeest, waterbuck, eland, wild dog, fringe-eared oryx.
Wifi and a computer are available at the lodge.

Sanctuary Kusini, Southern Serengeti:
The Serengeti is famous for hosting one of the world’s last great land migrations of mammals – the wildebeest migration. Every year 1.5 million wildebeests migrate from the Serengeti to the Masai Mara followed by hundreds of thousands of zebra, gazelle, and other plains game in search of fresh grazing pastures.
In addition, the park is noted for its lion and cheetah populations, as well as excellent leopard sightings. There are also frequent sightings of plains game including rarer species such as Klipspringer, as well as some incredible birdlife with more than 500 species living in the park. The wildebeest migration is usually present in the area around Sanctuary Kusini from mid-December to the end of March. One of the highlights is the calving season which sees the arrival of newborn zebra and wildebeest calves. The short grass plains around Sanctuary Kusini provide the perfect setting for the wildebeest during the birthing of their young.
Sanctuary Kusini is located in the southern part of the Serengeti. The famous wildebeest migration is usually present in areas around Kusini Camp from around January and April. The season between January and March greets the arrival of newborn zebra and wildebeest calves.
Sanctuary Kusini is the only permanent tented camp in southern Serengeti. Set around a rocky outcrop, or kopje, the twelve-tented bush camp is so remote that it needs its own airstrip. Each extremely spacious tent has en suite facilities with hot and cold running water and a personal tent attendant. Private verandas with comfortable furnishings extend in front of each unit. The dining area, lounge, library, and bush boutique are housed in the main area, which affords spectacular views from its wooden deck and the adjacent kopje.
Bush breakfasts and sundowners are served here on the giant boulders overlooking Serengeti’s famous endless plains.
Wifi and a computer are available at the lodge.
