Mozambique Suggested Itinerary - Maputo, formerly Lourenco Marques, still retains much of its unique Portuguese charm, with an African flavour. Maputo is a perfect gateway to the Mozambique islands and beaches or as a weekend destination on its own. Either way, explore the area on one of our day tours.
Maputo is an intriguing city, with a 'Cuban-salsa' vibe, where modern buildings rub shoulders with turn of the century Portuguese colonial architecture. A relaxed pavement cafe culture, coupled with outstanding seafood restaurants - try the traditional Portuguese peri-peri over giant (literally) crayfish and prawns - adds to Maputo's unhurried holiday atmosphere.
Offshore the paradise island of Inhaca draws many tourists to her pristine coastline. The waters off Mozambique teem with marine life - it is here that fisherman thrill to the fight of 'big game fishing', and SCUBA divers are mesmerized by the vibrant underwater world of Mozambique's coral reefs. Just north of Maputo, Bilene is a popular beach for the locals (so its 'gotta be good'). Best of all enjoy interaction with the locals en route to Bilene and savour the Mozambican countryside. For all the sunshine and warm water holiday fun, Mozambique is a top vacation option.
