Botswana family safari– a specially designed package that offers families the opportunity to discover the wonders of the Okavango Delta and beyond while spending quality time as a family on safari

As life becomes more and more demanding, make time to share in one of the wonders of the world while enjoying quality time with your children. This luxury package is an example of a Botswana family safari so can be tailor-made to suit your requests (enjoy a stay in Cape Town before and end it in Victoria Falls or any beach destination - the possibilities are endless).
Your Botswana family safari begins at Maun Airport (the gateway to the Okavango Delta). Light aircraft transfer to the Moremi Game Reserve within the Okavango Delta. Spend two nights at the intimate and luxurious Okuti and embark on game drives to visit the reserve and elephant populations that reside here. The water-side wonders seem endless and don’t be surprised if the sparkling Delta dances into your children’s dreams each evening.
Okuti comprises five very spacious twins and double-bedded “Masasas” (ancient tribal word for house of reeds), exceptionally unique in style and architecture all rooms overlook the permanent Maunachira channel. An additional two-family “Masasas” consists of two bedrooms that share spacious bathroom facilities – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp. Each en-suite bathroom provides both an indoor and outdoor shower. Connected by raised wooden walkways all areas of camp are wheelchair accessible.
Situated in the heart of the world-renowned Moremi Game Reserve, guests can experience game drives with unhindered views in specially-designed safari vehicles. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount. The Moremi Game Reserve is rich in wildlife, and its consistent year-round game viewing makes it ideal for repeat and first-time visitors to Botswana. Guests can also explore the Okavango Delta waterways by motorboat, and the area's open lagoons and winding channels make it a birder's paradise, complete with herons and storks in the breeding season.
Next, it’s off to Young Explorers, a Botswana family safari that operates out of Footsteps Across the Delta. Together you’ll find a unique way to experience the African wilderness in the unmatched exclusivity of the Shinde private concession. Enjoy three days at Footsteps exploring the labyrinth of lagoons, lakes, and hidden channels.
The Young Explorers family safari is based at the Footsteps Camp within the Shinde private concession. This comfortable, private camp accommodates six guests in three specially-designed Meru tents. One of the three tents has an additional bedroom converting it into a family tent that sleeps five. Each tent has its own newly refurbished en-suite bathroom including a washbasin, porcelain flush toilet, and bush shower, there is even a daily laundry service. The ‘bush kitchen’ is run by our chef and prepares menus to whet all appetites.
The Young Explorers’ emphasis is on learning how to track wildlife; both on foot and in 4x4 safari vehicles. We also teach children how to make small animal traps and how to start a fire from nothing more than two sticks. The children learn how to: recognize different animal spoor; identify a range of birds; try their hand at poling a Mokoro (subject to water levels); drive a game drive vehicle; fish; and shoot an air rifle at tin cans. On completion of the safari, children receive a Young Explorers certificate, t-shirt, and cap.
Day 6 & 7: Central Kalahari Game Reserve

Conclude your African family safari at Dinaka, where the comforts of home and the solitude of the wild combine. Your last days on safari are filled with explorations by day and by night, seeking out the ample predators and plains game who call this area home.
An exclusive private conservancy hugging the northern edge of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Dinaka is host to one of the most unique biodiversities in Southern Africa. This ever-changing desert landscape gives refuge to the Kalahari lion, springbok, Oryx, and brown hyena.
The camp itself was acquired in 2017 and provides the perfect start or finish to any discerning traveler's Botswana safari.
Guests are accommodated in seven spacious twin and double-bedded thatched safari tents, each en-suite bathroom has both a large walk-in shower and an outdoor shower with a view. Families are accommodated in a two-bedroomed thatched tent, sharing a spacious en-suite bathroom – ideal for families in this child-friendly camp. Dinaka’s tents are well-spaced and raised up on wooden decks giving the perfect vantage point over a permanent water hole. Connected by wooden walkways all areas of the camp are accessible by wheelchair.

The annual rains transform the arid desert landscape into a lush profusion of Kalahari vegetation, offering guests a unique insight into the lesser-known desert experience. The Sleep Out Deck offers guests a panoramic view and the opportunity to spend the night under the magnificent African night sky.
Situated alongside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, the focus of activities at Dinaka is exploring the Kalahari experience with wildlife ranging from giraffe to the antelope, small mammals like the honey badger, bat-eared fox, and porcupine to predators including the Kalahari lion, cheetah, leopard and brown hyena. Activities include morning and afternoon game drives in open safari vehicles, with night drives heading out into the darkness with hopes of witnessing the nocturnal wildlife happenings. When out on game drives our window seat guarantee ensures no more than four guests per vehicle and individual use of a camera mount. Educational walks are conducted by San Bushman guides offering you an insight into this ancient culture, its survival techniques, and its historical way of life. Birding is particularly spectacular as Dinaka hosts over 200 different bird species including the Kori Bustard and Crimson Breasted Shrike and a high concentration of Pale Chanting Goshawks.
