This panoramic sojourn winds its way from Pretoria to Cape Town and includes a golfing and non-golfing itinerary. After a game drive in Kruger Park* guests travel through eSwatini to Hluhluwe for game viewing and along the coast to Durban* for a city tour. Traverse the Valley of a Thousand Hills to Spionkop Lodge*, the perfect base for exploring the mountains, bush, birds and battlefields of the region. Continue to Port Elizabeth* for a game drive at Addo Elephant Park then on to Oudtshoorn for an ostrich-farm visit followed by an impressive descent through the Outeniqua Mountains to George*. After visiting the natural paradise of Knysna*, the train traverses the spectacular Garden Route to the winelands and Cape mountains before this magnificent expedition ends in Cape Town.

Day 1 |
Depart Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria at 10am. Lunch and dinner are served as the train traverses the Highveld to the Drakensberg Mountains.
The Drakensberg Mountains were first named by the Voortrekkers who thought the unbroken chain of heavily weathered peaks reminded them of the spines on a dragon’s back, hence the name ‘Dragon Mountain’ or Drakensberg in Afrikaans. |

Golfers: Morning tee off at Leopard Creek (subject to availability) near Kruger with lunch.
The famous Kruger Park (2-million hectares) is a world leader in advanced environmental management techniques and home to an impressive number of species, e.g. 336 species of trees, 49 species of fish, 34 species of amphibians, 114 species of reptiles, 507 species of birds and 147 species of mammals including the Big Five.
Non-golfers: 6.30am Game drive in the Kruger Park with lunch and an opportunity for curio shopping. 3pm Rejoin the train.

Breakfast is served in the dining cars until 10:00. Travel across the mountainous Kingdom of eSwatini.
Lunch is served in the dining cars at 12h30pm. Border formalities take place.2pm - Transfer (±30 min) to Hluhluwe for a game drive. As the oldest proclaimed reserve in Africa, Hluhluwe consists 960km² of hilly topography in central Zululand and is known for its rich wildlife and conservation efforts. It is the only state-run park in KwaZulu-Natal with all the Big Five game animals and is also a prime birding destination. 6pm - Return to the train. |

Golfers: Morning tee off at Durban Country Club/Beachwood/Zimbali.
Tonight's dinner is an “Africa” Theme or Smart Casual4pm: Rejoin the train and travel the Valley of a Thousand Hills to Ladysmith. Non-golfers: Enjoy a Durban city tour, a visit to the botanical gardens and lunch at Umhlanga’s beachfront. Durban is the third largest city in South Africa and enjoys great importance due to its industry and very large port. 2.15pm: Travel the Valley of a Thousand Hills to Ladysmith. |

Golfers: Transfer to Champagne Sports Resort for a morning tee off.
Non-golfers: 9am: Transfer (±30 min) to Spionkop Lodge to hear the historic tale of the Battle of Spionkop and walk in the footsteps of Churchill and Gandhi. Enjoy lunch. Afternoon game drive OR relax at the lodge. 4pm: Travel to Kroonstad across the Drakensberg Mountains. |

Day 6 | The observation car will be at the front of the train until Port Elizabeth – a different aspect that our rail enthusiasts enjoy. Traverse the Karoo, a vast and beautiful semi-desert stretching across the great South African plateau inland from the Cape coast with scattered towns and villages. Cross the dry southeastern region with its variety of grasses, hardy shrubs, tumbleweeds and succulents and descend the Great Escarpment towards the coast. |

Golfers: Morning tee off at Humewood Course and lunch. After lunch, join the train in Port Elizabeth and travel to Oudtshoorn via Willowmore. Non-golfers: 8am: Game drive at Addo Elephant Park, South Africa’s third largest national reserve stretching from the semi-arid Karoo, over the Zuurberg Mountains and down through the Sundays River valley to the coast. The park is home to one of the densest African Elephant populations on earth. |

Golfers: Transfer to Fancourt OR Ernie Els Oubaai (±60 min) for tee off and lunch.
6.30pm: Meet the non-golfers for dinner at the estate. Non-golfers: 9.15am: Enjoy a visit to an ostrich farm in Oudtshoorn. This semi-desert region is situated at the foot of the majestic Swartberg mountain range where many rivers, streams and falls have their origins. Oudtshoorn is regarded as the centre of the Klein Karoo and is famous for feathering the world in the time of the boa and grand hats. The ostrich boom of the early 20th century turned out many millionaires who, in turn, created elaborate lifestyles in this remote part of Africa.
After lunch on board the train, take a shuttle to mall or railway museum.

Golfers: Morning tee off at Ernie Els Oubaai OR Fancourt.
George and Knysna sit between the majestic Outeniqua Mountains to the north and the Indian Ocean to the south.Non-golfers: 8am: Morning at leisure in Knysna/ferry ride to Featherbed. The Knysna Heads – two sandstone cliffs guarding the mouth of the lagoon connecting the estuary with the sea – is a dramatic viewpoint. At lunchtime, the train travels the Garden Route, a narrow coastal terrace lying between the deep-set coastal cliffs rising sheer out of the sea and the mountains a short distance inland – a topology that facilitates for heavy rainfall, hence the name as it is always lush and green. |
