5 Day Garden Route Scheduled Tour: This Garden Route tour visits Knysna, Oudtshoorn (with meerkat safari) and Cape Winelands - 3 different budget options available.

The Garden Route is ideally explored on a luxury coach road trip. You can sit back and relax and enjoy the incredible scenery of the mountain ranges which run parallel to the stunning southern Cape coastline.

Cango Caves
 
Day One
Head westwards from Port Elizabeth along the Garden Route, which follows the Indian Ocean coastline and is bordered inland by soaring mountain ranges and indigenous forests. You’ll arrive at your hotel in Knysna, known as the oyster box of South Africa, nestling on the banks of a beautiful lagoon in the heart of the Garden Route. The afternoon is at leisure to relax or explore the town.

The Rex Hotel
 
The Rex Hotel is renowned for its chic urban style and impeccable service. Located in the vibrant seaside town of Knysna and surrounded by beaches, forests and lakes – this elegant retreat is the perfect base from which to explore all the attractions of the world-famous Garden Route. The Rose Café is the Rex’s fabulous dining establishment, where guests are treated to excellent service and superb cuisine. The menu features a mélange of dishes from the Greater Mediterranean which have been influenced by North Africa, the Middle East and the vast culinary treasures of South Africa. Whether you’re a vegetarian, vegan or have other special dietary requirements – the chefs will cater for your needs.
 
Other notable hotel features include an outdoor terrace area for al fresco refreshments, a hair salon, complimentary Wi-Fi and a welcoming atmosphere for children.

Day Two
After a leisurely breakfast you’ll enjoy a lagoon cruise to the Featherbed Nature Reserve, where you can take a trailer ride to the top of the Western Head to enjoy panoramic views of the town and lagoon, returning for lunch under the milkwood trees. The afternoon is at leisure to further explore this charming town set around a natural harbor lagoon.

Day Three
Travel through the Outeniqua Pass to Oudtshoorn, the centre of the world’s Ostrich farming industry. You’ll visit an Ostrich Farm for a guided tour, before taking a tour of the spectacular limestone caverns of the Cango Caves, one of the world’s great natural wonders, sculpted by nature through the ages.
 
Late afternoon you will travel to your hotel in time to check in and relax before dinner (own account).

Hlangana Lodge Standard Room
 
Oudtshoorn accommodation: Hlangana Lodge on a bed & breakfast basis
 
Situated just outside of Oudtshoorn, within walking distance of some of town’s finest restaurants, Hlangana Lodge is a pretty guest house set in a picturesque garden with a sparkling swimming pool.

Day Four
Enjoy an early morning Meerkat Safari. Witness these incredible wild habituated creatures emerging out of their burrows, in time to soak up the sun before they head about their daily activities (weather permitting). After this thrilling experience, head back for a delicious breakfast.
 
After breakfast, travel through the ‘Little Karoo’ to Barrydale, where you will have the opportunity to visit a local farm school, interact with the children and teachers, spending time with them in the classroom learning more about the local farming community (the school visit is subject to school being open), before continuing to Montagu, a picturesque and historic spa town. Continue to Stellenbosch, the second oldest city in South Africa, surrounded by some of the most spectacular mountains with vineyards as a backdrop.

Stellenbosch accommodation: Cultivar Guest Lodge on a bed & breakfast basis
 
Pool
 
Ideally located less than 7km from historic Stellenbosch amongst the rolling vineyards at the foot of the Stellenbosch mountains, Cultivar Guest Lodge is a gem in the heart of the Cape Winelands. 
 
The lodge consists of 13 individually decorated rooms, each with their own unique ambience and all the usual amenities expected of a luxury establishment. Perfectly manicured gardens lead onto endless green lawns with stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and majestic mountains. Day Five
After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a wine tasting in the Stellenbosch area, arguably the country’s most famous wine route.
 
Then finally onto Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, spectacularly set at the foot of Table Mountain. Between beautiful Cape Dutch homesteads, traditional dancers with painted faces performing in the streets, the smell of spicy Malay cooking and the taste of a well-made wine, this city will fill your senses.
 
The tour ends on arrival in Cape Town.
