Best time for Mauritius Wedding

Thanks to the subtropical climate in Mauritius, the weather is warm and mild throughout the year. Summer is from November to April with temperatures of between 23 – 33 degrees Celsius. Winters are mild (from May to October) with temperatures between 17 – 23 degrees Celsius. The months that are said to be the coldest are between June and August. These are also typically the windiest months too. The wettest months (occasional cyclones) are between December and March; with an average rainfall of 900mm on the coast and 1500mm on the central plateau.

Therefore; we would suggest the best time for a wedding in Mauritius is May to October. The reasons are first that it is cooler and more comfortable for you and your guests and furthermore; it is less crowded than the peak summer months. Also, there is less chance of rain at this time.

Marriage Pre-Requisites for Civil Wedding in Mauritius

To celebrate a wedding in Mauritius; the Civil Status Office needs the following documents

One copy of the first three pages of the bride and groom’s passports
Copy of birth certificates (copy issued not more than 3 months before the wedding date)
A copy of the divorce certificate or certificate of death of a spouse when applicable
An application form (we will send to you) duly filled in and signed by the future groom and bride
French & Italian nationals should produce a “Certificat de Capacité de Mariage”

The Registrar’s Office will need the original documents on the wedding day.

Additional Mauritius Wedding Conditions

All wedding documents must be translated into English or French. All translations must be certified by an authorized translator. A court translator is available on request
If a bride-to-be wants to marry in Mauritius within 10 months of her divorce; she must take a pregnancy test at her own expense. If the test is positive; a civil marriage cannot take place in Mauritius.
At least 45 days before the wedding date; the hotel must receive all documents.
The wedding ceremony can take place between Monday – Friday, excluding public holidays. Subject to the availability of the registrar.
Couples need to be on the island a minimum of 2 working days; preferably 3, before the ceremony. Most hotels require a minimum stay of 7 nights for the wedding couple.
A visit to Port Louis will be arranged to sign affidavits before the big day.

Depending on the nationality of the bride and groom; additional documents may be required. At your own cost.

Important things to consider for a destination wedding in Mauritius

It is advisable to arrive at least three days prior to the event. And to depart after a minimum of three days to complete all required procedures. Kindly note that public offices are closed at weekends and public holidays. You should plan to stay at least six days.

Clothes
Due to the tropical weather of Mauritius, it is advisable to choose outfits and accessories that will make your day much more enjoyable.

Packing
Brides carrying their bridal dress should pack it carefully in tissue in a suitcase or box marked ‘Fragile’. This will then be in the Fragile Container on the aircraft. Or pack lighter gowns in a cardboard box and place it in the overhead storage container of the plane.

Don’t forget you can have your wedding with your guests and then stay in Mauritius for your honeymoon. Either with your guests or after they have returned home.
