In addition to the many varieties of colorful and fragrant flowers, the property’s fairy tale garden is brimming with superb fruit. Along the way you’ll easily recognize the lemons, mango’s, bananas, pineapples, oranges, papayas or passion fruit. But would you know the difference between the pomegranates, and the jack fruit? Or between the kaffir limes, custard apples and soursops?
Take the time to see, discover, smell, pick and taste. A walk through the garden stimulates your senses and creates an excellent sense of natural well-being.

You’ll also be passing through vanilla and wild pepper plantations. Bringing a delightful touch of fragrance to your trip.

Your guide will be talking to you about the mysteries and benefits of the medicinal plants found in this huge forest. With the 4 hour trek you can reach the highest point of Nosy Komba and walk back down to the village on the other side. In this case, you’ll return by dugout canoe.

Village Tour and Snorkeling

Onboard a traditional dugout canoe, head for the village of Ampangorina. Here the women embroider tablecloths and the men produce woodcarvings. Share in the life of this bustling village focused on handicrafts.

You will then continue to Nosy Ambariofasy. A charming small island linked to Nosy Ambariode by a white sandbank. The translucent water invites you to a delicious swim and beautiful snorkeling. Allowing you to observe an underwater world of great beauty.

Amazing Diving and Snorkeling

Discover some extraordinary underwater spots whether near the hotel or just a few minutes away. Some of these include Nosy Tanikely, the Ankify wreck, or Manta Point. You will be diving in some superb water swarming with dozens of species of colorful fish. Groupers, rays, parrot fish, and Platax, etc. Plus turtles, starfish, and shellfish. Not to mention, the marvelous corals and giant anemones.

Just 20 minutes from the hotel, dive into a genuine natural aquarium and discover an undersea world. Brimming with fish, turtles, anemones and corals. Each more beautiful than the next. Meeting with a whale shark or a majestic manta ray. After having swam with an attractive turtle or through a shoal of Trevally!

A fast boat ideally suited to this activity means you can reach numerous well-known diving sites around Nosy Komba.

Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a total beginner (training at the PADI dive center). Else, you can just snorkel at any of the islands.

Nosy Iranja

Nosy Iranja, or Turtle island is two small islands linked by a bank of fine sand. This is where turtles come to lay their eggs, hence the name. Sometimes the water completely covers it. It is not uncommon to encounter whales en-route to Nosy Iranja.

To the east is Iranja Kely. It is overrun by lush vegetation and populated by numerous ferns and endemic species. It covers roughly 13 hectares. To the west is Iranja Be. Or, “large island” as it covers almost 200 hectares. It’s home to a fishing village with its traditional huts under the shade of the filaos trees.

From the village, an earth track leads to the highest points of Iranja Be. Where the silhouette of a former lighthouse, built by Gustave Eiffel, can still be admired. To the south, on La Grande Terre, you’ll see Baramahamay Bay. Home to villages specialising in the construction of dugout canoes and dhows. A spectacular and timeless landscape!

On the way back to Tsara Komba Lodge, a stopover on the island of Nosy Antsoha is possible. Where you will meet 3 different species of lemurs.

Lemur

The Baie Des Russes

In December 1904, a Russian fleet stopped off here on their way to fight in Japan. After staying for 2 months, one ship was left behind. These remaining sailors gave “Russian Bay” its name. Several fishing villages are found here as the region is known for its large fish. Dolphins, whale sharks, manta rays and humpback whales (August to mid November) are all part of the scenery here.

The beaches are also a favorite egg-laying ground for water turtles. While the numerous coral reefs resemble real-life natural aquariums.

Nosy Faly

Nosy Faly, known as the Sacred island, as it is home to the tombs of the local dynasty. The Sakalava Bemazava. You’ll discover the immense richness and diversity of its mangrove forest. The protective role of which is vital to the island’s villages as it holds back the full force of the waves. It acts as a genuine nursery for crabs, prawns and other fish. And, the Madagascan sea eagle, a bird of prey you’ll see flying overhead while you’re here.

A disused lighthouse provides a complete 360° panoramic view from the coasts of Grande Ile to Nosy Be and Nosy Komba. Including the Mitsio archipelago.

Lokobe National Park

This protected nature reserve is the archipelago’s last primeval forest. Follow your guide through the dense tropical forest to discover a unique world of plants and flowers. Alongside more than 350 animal species. This makes Lokobe popular with scientists from all around the world and all lovers of plants and wildlife. From insects, primates, lemurs, including a lemur endemic to the reserve; the Eulemur macaco. As well as frogs, chameleons, birds, and reptiles.

Nosy Sakatia

Nosy Sakatia is known as orchid island for its abundance of wild orchids. It is certainly the most authentic of the islands. On the way to Nosy Sakatia, it is common to encounter whales and whale sharks in season. This well preserved island on the West Coast of Nosy Be is home to numerous sites. Highly appreciated by both the scientific and ornithological communities. And a protected area for sea turtles has been created.

Nosy Be

Nosy Be, also known as Ambariobe (the “Large Island” in the local dialect) is also referred to as the fragrant island. This is due to the fragrances of cinnamon, and frangipani. But above all ylang-ylang which delights great perfume makers the world over.

The picturesque craftsman’s villages are worth a visit. As is the flower and spice distillery, or the Sacred Tree. Plus the colorful market of Ambanja, Mont Passot or the attractive beach at Andilana.

The Mitsio Archipelago

The Mitsio archipelago is a volcanic archipelago. The main island, La Grande Mitsio is inhabited by fishermen and stock rearers. There are  a host of smaller white sandy islands bordered by incredible creeks and lush vegetation. Tsarabanjina is one of the most beautiful of these. This island shelters a highly-diversified fauna. Lemurs, chameleons or giant bats. You will also see whales, dolphins, marine turtles and stingrays. Dive into the amazing nature the island offers.
