Lesotho Suggested Itinerary - The Sani Pass is a spectacular mountain road that is a well-known entry point into Lesotho from South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains.

The_winding_road_up_Sani_PassIt is the gateway to the ‘Roof of Africa’ scenic route that links the spectacular scenery of the Drakensberg with the mountains of northern Lesotho. The Sani Pass is the only border post between Kwazulu-Natal and Lesotho. A 4X4 vehicle is necessary for this road especially if the weather is bad. Never underestimate the changeability of the weather in Lesotho. A common truth is that you can have four seasons in one day, so be prepared. Have lunch at the top of the Sani pass at the highest pub in Southern Africa.

This tour departs from Underberg at 9am.

It takes approx. 2.5 hours to reach the summit, climbing a grand 2874 metres above sea level stopping at breath taking view sites along the Sani Pass and the two border posts i.e. The South African Border Control and Lesotho Border Control.

Once at the Top of the Sani Pass, we enjoy lunch (not included) at the highest Pub in Africa - The Sani Top Chalet. Lunch varies from R55-R150pp depending on your preference from the menu.

After lunch the Tour continues into a living Basotho village, where our experienced mountain guide will interest you on Lesotho and its people - the hardy mountainous Basotho folk. Traditional beer and homemade bread offered on request.

Descending the Sani Pass in the afternoon, the excitement grows, passing through the 20 hairpin bends of the steepest section of the Pass. One is reminded of the fact that the Sani Pass originated as a mule track linking one to another world, where life is untouched by civilization. Arrival back in Underberg in the late afternoon (around 4pm).

Price until 31st October 2017: R750 per person excluding lunch. 2018 rate to follow
