Bateleur Camp is nestled in the woodland at the foot of the magnificent Oloololo escarpment; which is on the rim of the Great Rift Valley; in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. Blessed with an astounding year-round concentration of animals and the site of the Great Wildebeest Migration, the Masai Mara provides an unsurpassed wildlife experience.
Covering an area of 1 510 km²; 583 square miles; the Masai Mara is a land of breathtaking vistas, plentiful wildlife, and endless landscapes. With abundant elephants, buffalo, giraffes, lions, and cheetahs alongside the migratory wildebeest and zebra, the reserve is a photographer’s and naturalist’s paradise. Leopards are frequently seen. Endangered black rhinos find shelter in dense thickets. While rafts of hippos and enormous crocodiles are found in the Mara River. The reserve is also home to over 450 bird species.

There are two intimate camps at andBeyond Bateleur Camp. Both have nine tented suites each and a family tent. Each elegant tent, with its own private butler and housekeeper, reflects the ambiance and glamour of Kenyan explorers of old. Slip into a world of hardwood floors, polished silver and copper bathtubs juxtaposed against the romance of the open Mara plains, with their abundant herds of wildlife. Beautifully handcrafted artifacts, fine antiques, leather buttoned Chesterfield sofas, books, and crystal and candlelight adorn the comfortable sitting and dining areas.

The en suite bathrooms comprise both indoor and outdoor showers; plus a ‘star bath’ with sky views. Each tent has a large private deck with a comfortable day bed overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara. Together with the convenience of a personal bar and coffee station.

Game drives are available to children aged twelve years and older. Children aged six to twelve are permitted on game drives at the lodge manager’s discretion. While children younger than six cannot participate in game drives; childminders can be arranged during game drives and meal times at an additional cost.
If paying for a Private Vehicle, children of any age may go on a game drive, with access to sightings being at the discretion of the guide, based on the behavior of both the child and animals. Greater distances to animals may be adhered to, or certain sightings may be avoided; in order to ensure the safety of all.

Designed especially for children visiting &Beyond’s lodges, WILDchild is filled with fun, interactive activities that offer opportunities to learn and discover new experiences and cultures. On arrival at &Beyond Bateleur Camp or sister camp Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp; each child will receive a WILDchild branded bag containing a logbook, crayons, pencils, and a paw print tattoo. There is a personalized welcome note for every child, with those under three getting an African-themed soft toy as well.
