Botswana Suggested Itinerary - The Chobe Princesses are luxury safari house boats operating on the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers (ex-Ichobezi). Tiger fishing is offered all year round on this river safari. Ideal for groups of friends or family.

The Zambezi Queen Collection now operates and manages all the Chobe River Houseboats. These boats were previously independently known as; The Zambezi Queen, The Pride of the Zambezi and Ichobezi Houseboats.

The Chobe Princesses operate on weekly departures: Monday's for 2 nights, Wednesday's for 2 nights, and Friday's for 3 nights). The Chobe Princesses are smaller too so this gives family & friends more 'exclusivity' as you could have the boat to yourselves.

The Chobe Princess traverses about 50km (seasonal water levels permitting) of the Chobe River, along the banks of the Chobe National Park (as opposed to the Zambezi Queen which only traverses about 25km and due to the fact that it is a larger vessel, it is sometimes not able to move from its docking point).

The area is home to the world's largest population of elephant and provides the ideal platform to experience the eco rich environment. Activities range from birding and fishing to photo safaris and game viewing.

Staying in one of the three Chobe Princesses is like being on your very own luxury houseboat. As you drift down the Chobe River and spot incredible wildlife scenes, you'll be able to completely relax in an intimate river safari experience.

The Chobe Princesses are located along the banks of the Chobe River, departing near Kasane only a few kilometers from the point where 4 African countries meet, namely Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is within travelling distance from one of the great wonders of the world - the magnificent Victoria Falls, as well as the world famous Chobe National Park, which borders the Chobe River, teeming with wildlife and approximately 120 000 elephants, as well as over 400 species of birds, making this an exceptional wildlife safari experience.

CHOBE PRINCESS ITINERARY
Day 1: Kasane - Chobe

Transfer by road from Kasane Airport to Kasane River Immigration office (road transfer from Kasane Airport is included). From here a short trip across the river, to the confluence of the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers, takes you to Impalila Island. Here you will embark on the Chobe Princess Luxury Safari boat.

If you arrive with the 1pm and 2pm transfers, you’ll be served lunch, while if you’re transferred at 3pm or 4pm you’ll be served a selection of snacks. Once all our guests have boarded in the late afternoon, and if the weather permits, we’ll go in search of some big game. This is the perfect time of day to make the most of that golden glow of the African sunset by getting some iconic shots of the animals as they gravitate towards the river before night falls.

After the sunset cruise return back on board and freshen up before meeting your Captain on the upper deck. After a safety briefing, you’ll make your way to the dining room where you’ll be served a delicious three-course plated dinner along with an excellent choice of wines. Finish off with a hot drink or nightcap at the bar before retiring to the night sounds of Africa in the distance.

Day 2 & 3 (if 2 night itinerary, see day 4 for activities): Onboard Houseboat – Chobe National Park
Chobe River Safari

Spend your days game viewing or bird watching by boat in the Chobe National Park - a remarkable experience. Watch huge herds of elephants and a variety of other game come down to drink at the river. Relax on the upper deck of the safari boat or try your hand at fishing. Or perhaps you’d prefer a spot of bird watching.

World famous for their Tigerfish and Bream, the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers will delight and challenge both the angling enthusiast and the novice. With over 100 kilometers of rivers and waterways available to guests, we offer you the best possible chance of experiencing the thrill of landing a legendary Tigerfish or the satisfaction of catching any one of the many other species found within the Chobe and Zambezi Rivers. The quality of your guides and their success in finding those elusive spots that will yield the best catches is well renowned.

The Impalila area is unique in that it offers year round Tiger fishing. This is due to the giant flood plains upstream which hold the annual Zambezi flood waters, keeping it warm and nutritious and allowing incredible fish breeding habitat. During the winter months, flood waters recede, leading to ideal Tiger feeding conditions when the rest of the river systems are too cold for Tigerfish activity.

Please remember that a strict catch and release policy in line with the conservationist ideals of the area is enforced.

For those looking for an even greater challenge, the unique rapids within the river systems offer unrivaled experiences for those wanting to enjoy the skillful art of fly-fishing. Knowledgeable guides, excellent boats and high-quality equipment all combine to make any stay on the Chobe Princess Safari Boat an anglers idea of Utopia.

We know that some guests like to watch the sunrise as they sip on their coffee while others like to take a more leisurely approach. That’s why we let you choose your morning activities, depending on the type of holiday you’re searching for. Perhaps you want to enjoy a water-based safari or a village tour on the Namibian side of the river?  Or for the more adventurous a walking tour to a 2000-year-old baobab tree? You may even decide to simply remain on board as the Chobe Princess houseboat glides its way along the banks of the Chobe River.

After your morning activities, enjoy lunch on board while using your unique vantage point to spot wild animals and drink in the expansive views. Join our guide in the afternoon for a water-based safari on a tender boat where you can get up close to an array of wildlife, including some of the 120 000 elephants for which the Chobe is well known. After a delicious dinner, settle down for a restful and tranquil night in your cabin.

Day 3 or Day 4:
Enjoy a morning cruise during breakfast as you do your last bit of animal spotting and take some memorable pictures. Bid our crew a reluctant farewell and then make your way via tender boat to the Namibian Immigration Office. Once you’ve had your documents stamped you’ll be transferred via tender boat to the Kasane Immigration Office, where you’ll have your documents stamped once again before entering Botswana.

We recommend extending your stay to fully appreciate the magnificent Victoria Falls and surrounds.

Activities on board Chobe Princess
Fishing:
No trip to the Chobe is complete without trying your hand at fishing for Tiger. One of the most sought after sport fish, the tiger fish offers anglers the opportunity to land a great fighting fish and to get bragging rights for those who manage to land a 8 pounder or more. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge is especially suited for fishing with our large fleet of tender boats, incredibly knowledgeable guides and access to over 100kms of water, including the Zambezi River, the Chobe River and the Kasai Channel.

A jet boat also allows clients access to the Chobe rapids, some of the most exciting fishing waters in the area. We offer both conventional equipment as well as flyfishing equipment and all equipment is included in our rate. All fishing is strictly on a catch and release basis.

Game Viewing:
Both Ichingo Chobe River Lodge and the Chobe Princess Safariboats are in the heart of the Chobe region with access to the river frontage of the Chobe National Park. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge offers game viewing excursions by tender boat into the Park, allowing guests to experience the enormous diversity and concentration of wildlife up close and personal.

Staying on board the Chobe Princess Safariboats is like being on a permanent game viewing vehicle as our docking sites are all situated overlooking some of the prime game viewing areas. Huge herds of elephant can be seen all year round, often swimming across the river in front of our houseboats, to get to the lush Caprivi grasslands. Buffalo, lion, lechwe, puku, giraffe, zebra, sable, kudu and leopard are all frequently seen in this area promising guests who stay with us and unforgettable wildlife experience.

Photo Safaris:
Owing to the wonderful sightings that both the wildlife and birds provide, the Chobe Princess River Lodges are perfectly situated to offer fantastic photographic safaris. To aid in capturing that perfect moment, we have a customized photographic boat available to guests on request, that allows great stability, 360 views and pure comfort.

The angles and light that being on the river delivers offers clients some of the most breathtaking photos and it is for this reason that the Chobe River has become one of the wildlife photographers hotspots in Africa.

Birding:
Summer in the Chobe is a colourful affair with over 450 species of bird being found in the grasslands and waterways of our area. Ichingo Chobe River Lodge and the Chobe Princess Safariboats have access to the Chobe National Park and the Caprivi wetlands, both of which are home to some of the more distinct birds such as African Skimmers, Rock Pratincoles and the African Finfoot.

Old favourites are also to be found in huge numbers such as the kingfishers, the herons and of course Fish Eagles. Having access to your own private guide and tender boat means that you are able to spend may hours just whiling away some time on the river with our exceptionally knowledgeable birding guides.
